Solarization of Konark

Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India announced the implementation of the Scheme for 100 % solarisation of Konark sun-temple & Konark town, Odisha on 19.05.2020. .

Konark has been selected due to the location of ancient sun-temple there and the associated historical and cultural association with Sun. The context makes it an ideal location for a demonstration programme for a town running completely through solar energy.

The objective of this scheme is the 100 % solarisation of Konark sun-temple & Konark town through installation of grid connected and off-grid solar projects so that electricity needs of all the households of Konark city and Konark temple are fully fulfilled with solar energy.

10 MW grid connected Solar PV projects.Various off-grid applications like Solar Trees, E-Rickshaws, Charging stations for E-Rickshaws, Solar Drinking water kiosks and Off-grid Solar Power Plant.

The Scheme proposes 100 % CFA of around Rs. 25 Crore. The scheme will be valid upto March 2021

Biju Patnaik Energy Park

The park was set up under Special Area Demonstration Programme (SADP) of Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) at Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar over 2.5 acres of land and was dedicated to the public on 10.12.2006 by Sri Naveen Pattanik, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha and is directly managed by OREDA.

The park has been divided into distinct activity zones namely Urja, Oriana, Aditya, Mitra, Bhaskar and Ishban which respectively represent the waste to energy resource centre, Children’s corner, indoor exhibit gallery, conference room, interactive media centre and Office.

Besides there are several outdoor exhibits which are either live demos or working models of different renewable energy devices which depict their working principles, applicability and a host of other information. Each of the activity zones and the exhibits have a great deal to offer to the inquisitive visitors.

MOU signed with National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur to give support as Transaction Advisor for up-gradation and operation of Biju Patnaik Energy Park, Bhubaneswar.
