The program envisages provision of solar lighting to remote /un-electrified villages for both household and community usage. The solar powered systems are provided both in stand-alone mode and mini-grid mode as per local conditions.
Up to 2011-12 under the Remote Village Electrification Program of MNRE, GoI a total 1620 villages were electrified. In 2016-17 STSC Dev. Dept., Govt. of Odisha sponsored program, solar electrification of 204 tribal hamlets have been covered.
In 2017-18 and 2018-19, 392 villages under Decentralized Distribution Generation (DDG) Projects under Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) scheme. The project envisages two types of technologies viz. Solar Mini-grids and Stand-alone Solar Power Packs.
In 2019-20 under SAUBHAGYA (Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana) 11,536 households were electrified through 200 Wp Solar powered DC system in rural hamlet/ habitations.
